Garry Whimp

Garry is a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in accountancy, primarily within the building industry, Garry also brings insights from successful ventures in timber and mortgage/finance sectors, offering a comprehensive understanding of business ownership and financial management. His journey in insolvency began in 2007, marking the start of a diverse career. Garry has undertaken significant roles as both receiver and liquidator across various sectors, including hospitality, horticulture, farming, construction, retail, warehousing, engineering, security, media, and finance. Noteworthy accomplishments include his appointment by Easy Factors International Limited as receiver for ten hotels, where he successfully managed their operations towards profitability and facilitated their individual sale over three years. Additionally, Garry led the liquidation of Barantas Security Limited and oversaw the recovery of funds from directors following the collapse of International Academy of New Zealand Limited, which enrolled 3000 students. Garry's expertise extends to handling complex matters such as fraud reporting and providing expert testimony in court. He has collaborated with forensic accounting specialists and served as an expert witness for the Department of Internal Affairs in cases involving gaming machine funds misappropriation. In his pursuit to protect creditor interests, Garry excels in fund collection strategies, employing meticulous analysis of company documents and identifying voidable transactions to enhance creditor outcomes. Beyond his professional commitments, Garry enjoys fishing, golfing and holds a private pilot’s license.
Benjamin Francis

Ben brings extensive expertise to Blacklock Rose Limited, having garnered 13 years of experience in specialist insolvency firms across Australia and New Zealand. His tenure spans a diverse array of corporate insolvency assignments, encompassing liquidations (both court and voluntary), receiverships, voluntary administrations, and deeds of company arrangements. Notably, Ben has spearheaded the trade-on and sale of businesses, conducted thorough investigations into company failures, and successfully recovered voidable preferences. His notable roles include serving as a liquidator for Podular Housing Systems Limited, a prominent case in the tiny- homes building sector, and as a court appointed interim-receiver; a remedy rarely invoked. Operating primarily within the realm of corporate insolvency, Ben is committed to maximizing returns for creditors, irrespective of company turnovers, ranging from $50,000 to $30,000,000 annually. Complementing his professional achievements, Ben holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Auckland, along with a Masters of Laws with Honours (Commercial Specialization). He is admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and is a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. Beyond his professional pursuits, Ben finds fulfillment in family travel and is an avid sports enthusiast, notably active in rugby union as a respected referee.
Marshall Ren

Marshall graduated from the University of Auckland in 2024 with a conjoint Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts degree. He has recently been admitted to the High Court of New Zealand and is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Before joining Blacklock Rose and entering the insolvency field, Marshall gained valuable legal experience through internships at Patsnap and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) in Shanghai. At Patsnap, he worked as an in-house counsel intern, where he was exposed to a range of legal matters including intellectual property, compliance, and IPO processes. During his time at CMAC, he served as the lead intern, managing over a dozen case files and gaining first-hand insights into quasi-judicial procedures in an international arbitration setting. While at university, Marshall also worked in the hospitality and education sectors. These roles gave him the opportunity to interact with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups—from school students to senior citizens. These experience helped him to develop strong communication skills and a natural ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and relatable way and build rapport with people from all walks of life. Marshall is an outgoing and approachable individual. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking and playing board games with friends.
Bella Chan

Bella is in her third-year as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) student at Auckland University of Technology with one-year professional experience in insolvency and business restructuring. In her current role, she supports licensed insolvency practitioners with investigative file management, legal document drafting, and creditor communications across complex corporate collapses. Her academic strengths lie in accounting, finance, and commercial law, supported by strong academic results in Company Law, Legal Reasoning & Writing, and Hospitality Accounting & Finance. Bilingual in Mandarin and English, and with comprehension of Cantonese and Korean, she's well-positioned for cross-border commercial matters. Driven, analytical, and detail-oriented, she thrives in high-performance environments where collaboration and precision matter. Outside of work, she's a passionate CrossFit and Hyrox athlete, training that reinforces the same discipline and resilience she brings to her professional and academic pursuits.
Baileigh Collins

Baileigh holds a Bachelors Of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law from Victoria University of Wellington. Baileigh combines strong technical knowledge with a real world understanding of business operations. Before moving into insolvency, Baileigh gained hands on experience across a range of industries from customer service, farming, manufacturing (at Fonterra and Yarrows) and Pharmaceuticals which has given her a unique insight into the challenges faced by businesses from the inside out. Originally from a dairy farm in South Taranaki, she values community and hard work and brings these principles into every job. Outside of work Baileigh enjoys catching up with friends and playing indoor bowls
Michael Whimp

With over seven years of experience in both the beef and sheep industry and the insolvency sector, Michael brings a diverse skill set that bridges primary industry knowledge with financial and operational expertise. His experience in the insolvency industry includes extensive involvement in asset management, debtor collection, investigations and accounts management, providing him with a sharp eye for financial detail and business performance. Alongside this, Michael possesses comprehensive knowledge in marketing and website design, enabling him to integrate digital innovation with practical business solutions to drive efficiency and growth. In his spare time Michael enjoys fishing, diving and spending time with friends and family.
